If your PC with Vista is running slow you’re not alone. We get a lot of e-mails daily from people asking how they can speed up their Vista computer. The good news is that in most cases you can spend a little time on your PC and speed up your Vista operating system your self.

So if Vista is running slow here’s a few things you can do. First of all you want to do some general maintenance your Vista computer. To start with preform a general cleaning and delete all your cookies and temporary files. To do this go to my computer right-click on your hard drive which is usually the C drive and select properties. From there you will find the tools you need to do a general cleanup.

Next you will want to access your control panel and delete any programs you no longer want or need. You will also want to cleanup your desktop. Too many icons and shortcuts on your desktop will slow your Vista computer down. Next cleanup your taskbar. Right click and delete any programs you do not absolutely need. If your Vista is running slow this is a good start.

You should also run a full antivirus scan. A virus or spyware on your computer running in the background can really slow down. Not to mention it could be hazardous to your personal information. See want to make sure your computer is clean of any virus. Before you run your full scan make sure you update your virus definitions so you have the latest ones.

The biggest problem we found when Vista is running slow is a corrupt or bloated registry. Every time your computer starts, shuts down or loads programs it has to reference the registry. If you have a lot of corrupt or orphaned registry files your Vista computer will become very slow. By default Windows looks at these entries and tries to reference them with the software that may no longer be there or is not working properly. You need to clean these or repair them.

Unless you’re a computer technician this is very difficult to do manually. You can computer shops use software to make the job much easier and safer. If you delete or alter the wrong file your computer may become unstable or even unusable. It is best to use software that is made for registry scanning and cleaning. The ones we recommend for registry cleaning are listed on our Main page. You can feel safe using any one of them.

If you are not sure you need a registry repair program I recommend you download a copy and run a scan on your computer. You can do all that for free. This will tell you how many errors you have in your registry and if you need to purchase a program or not. To fix all problems on your computer you will have to purchase the software but it is a very good investment and will keep your Vista computer running smoothly and error-free.

So if your Vista PC is running slow you now have the tools to repair it yourself. When you get through your Vista computer should be running like it did when you first bought it.

Are you suffering from these Vista slow shutdown problem? here is some information that may help you with this aggravating problem. You may have to try a couple of different things before you find the root of your problem but if you follow these steps you should be able to eliminate the process that is causing the slow shutdown.

More than likely you have a device or driver that is not shutting down and causing Vista to hang up on shutdown. But which one? it’s really hard to tell sometimes and since Vista does not make it easy for you to eliminate programs from start up it’s really hard to tell.

If you can remember when the problem started and what you did, like installing new software you may have a good starting point. If you recently installed a new program try deleting it. Sometimes the cache will cause problems so start by running a general cleanup on your computer. Delete all your temporary files.

Next thing you’ll want to check is to make sure you do not have a virus or spyware installed on your computer. Either one of these will cause Windows Vista to hang. Update your virus software and run a full scan. Same with your anti-spyware software, if you do not have any installed on your computer you will have to download a good spyware cleaner from a third party and run it.

The biggest reason Vista will suffer from a slow shutdown is because of a corrupt registry. Vista has to reference the registry every time it starts up or shuts down. If you have a corrupt entry or a corrupt, bloated registry then this is more than likely your problem.

Windows looks for software or programs that are no longer there or not working correctly. In most cases it will wait the full 30 seconds per entry, which is the default time to reference registry. So you can see why if you had more than one corrupt registry entry why Windows Vista would take so long to shutdown.

So the next thing you want to do is run a scan on your registry, clean it and repair it. Since Vista does not have a built-in registry cleaner you will have to get one from a third-party. I recommend avoiding the free ones, even though they sound really good and the price is right they do not do a complete job. They are actually designed that way so you go for their upgrade or Pro version which you have to pay for of course. So you’re better off starting with a professional registry cleaner to start with.

The paid versions of registry cleaners are well worth the investment. They do deeper scans and will find more problems and bad entries with the registry than any free ones ever will. Plus you can schedule them to run routine maintenance, which you should be doing anyways.

Some of the better registry cleaners like reg cure allow you to remove programs from the start up safely. Removing un-needed programs from start up will allow your computer to boot much faster and of course shutdown faster.

Once you’re through going through the maintenance procedures stated in this article your computer should be running like it did when it was new!
