Sometimes older computers will get so cluttered with garbage and corrupt programs that they become very slow in their operations and extremely slow when trying to shut off. If you are running Windows XP and are experiencing the slow shutdown problem you can usually fix it yourself.

There are a few things that will cause this problem. When shutting down a PC your operating system closes all the applications before it shuts off completely. Some corrupt programs may hang and not close properly. The default setting for most Windows operating systems is 30 seconds. If the program will not close windows will wait the full amount of time before giving up on it. If you have multiple programs are not closing properly, it can take forever to shut down your computer. I have seen some take over 30 min.

You can manually shut down your computer by holding the power button in for four seconds or more. This is not the proper way to shut down a computer though. Doing it this way will shut your computer down, but it will also cause more errors, and could cause more corrupt files.

The problem comes with a corrupt registry. Orphaned or corrupted registry files that belong to software that is no longer on your computer or not working properly, is one of the major causes for a slow shutdown. If by some chance, you know which program is causing the problem. You can go in and manually delete it yourself. But unless you know what you’re doing this is not recommended. You could cause more harm than good. If you edit or delete the wrong registry entry you could make your PC unable to restart.

The best option to cure this problem is a good repair program. Since Windows does not come with any you will have to download a third-party program. A good registry repair program is a good investment for any computer. It should become part of your routine maintenance. Preforming regular scans and cleaning on your PC will keep it running like new and fully optimized. Your applications will load faster, and eliminate your slow shut off problem.

You will want to look over the different options the software provides before you make your purchase. Some have some really nice features the other ones don’t. Like easily removing programs from your start up, scheduled scans and updates, built-in spyware and ad aware removal and some will even have an option you can check for fast shutdowns.

Windows XP slow boot times can be caused by several different things. Your computer may have ran great when you first bought it but over the years you notice it’s been slowing down considerably. There are steps you can take to speed it up.

XP is a great operating system, and most people like it better than Windows vista however, it it can become sluggish after a period of time. You may have noticed that programs are taking longer to load or you may be getting blue screens or crashes.

The first thing you’ll want to do is run a clean up on your computer to delete any programs you no longer use. Delete all your temporary files and empty your recycle bin. If your desktop is plastered with icons you will want to remove the ones that you don’t use on a daily basis. Most people don’t know this, but they do slow your computer down. Same with the icons in your quick start menu or taskbar, delete the ones you don’t need.

Next you’ll want to update and run a full anti virus scan. Have you scanned for spyware lately? If not do so. Before you go to bed tonight. You can start the defrag process this takes quite a while. And I usually do it at night while I’m sleeping. The most overlooked maintenance that should be performed on any computer is a registry tuneup.

Registry errors are the biggest cause for computer slowdowns. All your software and programs need to reference the registry when they load. Corrupt files or other errors will cause computer crashes, slow applications, and slow boot times. You can edit and repair your registry manually, but it is not recommended. If you are not an experience computer technician you may do more harm than good.

It is best to invest in a good registry repair program. They are very easy to use, and you can schedule them to run on a regular basis, at night or any other time you’re not using your computer. Using a repair program is like giving your computer a tuneup. The first time you run it you will find all types of errors and corrupt files, plus tons of orphaned registry files. After you delete the files you do not need and reboot your computer. You will immediately notice an increase in performance and speed.

Are you running Windows and experiencing the XP slow startup problem? It’s very annoying waiting for your computer to boot or load programs. I used to be able to make a whole pot of coffee while my computer booted. Here’s a few things you can do to speed up the process.

If you have an older computer that tests the memory every time you boot and goes through multiple startup screens there is a way to eliminate that. Restart your computer and enter the bios. Look for boot options and enable quick boot. This will enable you to skip all the unnecessary startup screens and other sequences.

Not all PCs have that option. Next you will want to look at your antivirus program. Going to the options menu and make sure it is not scanning every time you start your computer. If it is disable this option, this can really slow down your boot time and cause a windows XP slow startup.

You’ll also want to do a general cleaning up your hard drive. You can do that by selecting your hard drive and running the disk cleanup. You can also remove any old programs that you no longer use, the less software your PC has to load, the faster it will be. Next you will want to eliminate any startup programs that you do not absolutely need. The problem is Windows XP made this difficult. There really is no easy way to do it. You can download a third-party program like tweak UI. Or most registry repair programs will enable you to remove startup programs safely.

Next you will want to do a full virus scan and also a scan for spyware and ad aware. If you haven’t performed maintenance on your computer for a while you might be shocked at what it finds. If you have a virus or spyware running in the background this can cause a windows xp slow startup.

All of the above suggestions may help, but in most cases, the biggest problem for slow boot is a corrupted or damaged Registry. You will need a good registry repair program to fix it.

Your computer’s registry contains all the files and settings that your software needs to reference every time it loads. Over time, from uninstalling and installing software your registry collects a lot of orphaned files. These need to be cleaned or repaired. Improper shutdowns, viruses, crashes, improper uninstalls, or spyware will cause your registry to become corrupt or bloated over time. A major cause of the windows xp slow startup problem.

When you boot your computer, the startup sequence refers to the registry to load software. It may be looking at a corrupted files and software that is no longer working or on your computer. In most cases this is the reason why Windows XP startup is so slow. You should perform regular maintenance on your registry to keep it fully optimized. Doing so is like giving your computer or a tuneup. You will be amazed at the increased performance and speed up your computer.

To see if you have registry errors download one registry repair programs on our main page and run it. it is a free download.
