Vista Is Running Slow – How To Fix It Yourself

If your PC with Vista is running slow you’re not alone. We get a lot of e-mails daily from people asking how they can speed up their Vista computer. The good news is that in most cases you can spend a little time on your PC and speed up your Vista operating system your self.

So if Vista is running slow here’s a few things you can do. First of all you want to do some general maintenance your Vista computer. To start with preform a general cleaning and delete all your cookies and temporary files. To do this go to my computer right-click on your hard drive which is usually the C drive and select properties. From there you will find the tools you need to do a general cleanup.

Next you will want to access your control panel and delete any programs you no longer want or need. You will also want to cleanup your desktop. Too many icons and shortcuts on your desktop will slow your Vista computer down. Next cleanup your taskbar. Right click and delete any programs you do not absolutely need. If your Vista is running slow this is a good start.

You should also run a full antivirus scan. A virus or spyware on your computer running in the background can really slow down. Not to mention it could be hazardous to your personal information. See want to make sure your computer is clean of any virus. Before you run your full scan make sure you update your virus definitions so you have the latest ones.

The biggest problem we found when Vista is running slow is a corrupt or bloated registry. Every time your computer starts, shuts down or loads programs it has to reference the registry. If you have a lot of corrupt or orphaned registry files your Vista computer will become very slow. By default Windows looks at these entries and tries to reference them with the software that may no longer be there or is not working properly. You need to clean these or repair them.

Unless you’re a computer technician this is very difficult to do manually. You can computer shops use software to make the job much easier and safer. If you delete or alter the wrong file your computer may become unstable or even unusable. It is best to use software that is made for registry scanning and cleaning. If you are not sure you need a registry repair program I recommend you download a copy and run a scan on your computer. You can do all that for free. This will tell you how many errors you have in your registry and if you need to purchase a program or not. To fix all problems on your computer you will have to purchase the software but it is a very good investment and will keep your Vista computer running smoothly and error-free.
